Registered
Nurse Supervisor
Openings Evening and Night Shift |
Responsibilities:
Directly responsible
to the Director of Nursing and Assistant Director of Nursing. |
Essential
Duties:
- Attend shift
report daily, noting status change of residents (both physical and
mental).
- Make rounds
at the beginning of shift, evaluating critical and problem areas and
acquiring information necessary to apprise physicians. Confers with
charge nurse to accumulate further knowledge of areas that need addressed
by supervisor or physician, reports and records same.
- Apprises physician
of residents condition and receives direction for both acute and chronic
ailments.
- Assesses lab
results and notifies physician as necessary and posts lab results
on charts.
- Receives
new admissions. Performs or co-signs resident physical assessment.
Notifies physician of admission and assumes responsibility for
receiving and initiating all orders.
- Assumes responsibility
for receiving staff cal-ins and finding acceptable replacements in
the absence of administrative staff.
- Is available
to physicians to make rounds and is responsible for the recording
and initiating of new orders.
- Uses the computer
for insertion and adjusting of physician orders.
- Attends care
conferences in the absence of staff nurses or other RN's.
- Is available
as nursing resource person for charge nurses, CNA's and other departments.
- Maintains a
safe, comfortable and pleasant environment within the nursing department
by encouraging adherence to established standards and promoting cooperation
with other departments.
- Assumes responsibility
for personal and professional growth.
- Dresses and
behaves in a professional manner in accordance with the codes established
by this facility.
- Recognizes the
legal implications and responsibilities in the practice of nursing.
- Evaluates the
performance of auxiliary personnel in caring for residents and constantly
investigates means of upgrading nursing care.
- Responds to
requests from patients, physicians or nursing staff.
- Accurately and
concisely documents in the patients health record findings, instructions
and services rendered.
- Delegates only
those duties that can be safely and legally delegated.

Qualifications,
Education and Experience:
Graduate of an
approved school of nursing, currently licensed in Colorado. Possesses
bedside skills needed to provide quality care given by others. Has a
good working knowledge of general nursing principles and techniques
including geriatric and rehabilitative nursing, with some supervisory
and decision-making experience. Should have the patience to work with
demanding or disoriented persons. Has the knowledge, ability and the
willingness to assist in orientation of new personnel and the continuing
education of all nursing personal. |

Licensed
Practical Nurse

Responsibilities:
Directly responsible to
the RN supervisor and/or the Director of Nursing |
Essential
Duties:
- Participates
actively in resident care planning, noting needed changes.
- Assumes responsibility
for accurate observation, recording and reporting to the appropriate
persons the symptoms, reactions and progress of residents assigned
to nurse's care.
- Supervises and assists
in the care given by auxiliary personnel.
- Promptly informs
the DON or nurse supervisor of any problems concerning the health
or safety of residents or staff under her supervision.
- Make regular
rounds on all residents under the practical nurse's care at the beginning
and end of the shift (and as often as indicated in the interim).
- Administers prescribed
medications and treatment in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act,
with an understanding of the nursing implications (drug actions, interactions,
adverse effects, etc.) in terms of patient diagnosis.
- Safeguards drugs
in accordance with the the law and with established policies.
- Assists with the orientation
and training of new personnel.
- Assumes responsibility
for personal and professional growth.
- Assists with periodic
evaluation of auxiliary personnel.
- Sees that equipment
needed is available in proper working order, and instructs auxiliary
personnel in the proper use and care of equipment.
- Participates in assigned
committee activity.
- Recognizes legal implications
and responsibilities in regard to the practice of nursing.
- Maintains a
safe, comfortable, and pleasant environment within the department
by encouraging adherence to established standards, policies and procedures,
maintaining orderliness of the unit, and fostering cooperation with
other departments.
- Delegates only
those duties that can be legally or safely delegated to others.
- Accepts responsibility
for her or his actions and determines her or his competency for performing
duties in the scope of her or his practice.

Qualifications,
Education and Experience:
Graduate of an
approved school of practical nursing, with a current license to practice
in the state of Colorado. Able to supervise care given by nurse aides,
and has the bedside nursing skills needed to provide quality care. Has
the patience needed to work with demanding or confused residents. Willing
to participate in orientation and in-services. |

Aide

Responsibilities:
Works under the supervision
of the licensed nurse. Follows established policies and procedures,
as well as written or verbal instructions of her or his supervisor.
Assists with residents' care doing selected procedures or activities
for which she or he has been trained, and that the nurse may legally
delegate. |
Essential
Duties:
Assist in implementing
care of residents by:
- Becoming familiar with
each resident's plan of care.
- Giving mental, emotional
and physical support in accordance with care plans.
- Maintaining awareness
of change sin resident's condition.
- Participating in care
conferences.
Provide emotional
comfort by:
- Understanding own feelings
and reactions to residents, visitors, and co-workers.
- Understanding the residents'
feelings in relation to others.
- Treating residents with
dignity and respect.
- Encouraging residents
to do what they can for themselves.
- Patiently reorienting
or caring of the disoriented.
- Encouraging residents
to be mentally active.
- Providing for privacy
while giving personal care.
- Answering call bells
promptly.
Provide physical
comfort by:
- Assisting residents with
activities of daily living.
- Helping residents to
stay clean, dry, and odor-free.
- Serving trays and assisting
residents to eat meals and snacks.
- Using comfort measures,
as skin protectors, cushions, pillows, etc., as indicated.
- Assisting with
ambulation, transfers, and position shifts.
- Reporting complaints
or problems of residents promptly to the supervisor.
Provide for residents'
safety by:
- Keeping call
bells in reach and encouraging residents to ring for needed assistance.
- Using side rails
and safety devices appropriately.
- Moving, lifting, or transferring
residents according to policy.
- Using mechanical equipment
according to procedure.
- Cleaning spills
promptly; keeping hallways unobstructed.
- Observing safety precautions
when oxygen is in use.
- Reviewing and following
fire and disaster procedures.
- Checking on all residents
in assignment frequently.
- Knowing whereabouts of
wandering, confused residents.
Assist with rehabilitation
and remotiviation of residents by:
- Encouraging
special aptitudes, interests, or activities.
- Participating in reality
orientation.
- Encouraging
mobility and discouraging disability by proper positioning, use of
braces, slings, or assertive devices as ordered.
Share in
efficient functioning of the unit by:
- Using proper channels
of communication.
- Maintaining ward order.
- Fulfilling assigned duties
regularly
- Working well as a part
of the total health care team

Qualifications,
Education and Experience:
Licensed as a Certified
Nursing Assistant in the State of Colorado or eligible to take the exam
and become licensed within four (4) months of employment. Must be free
of back problems that would limit ability to lift at least 50 lb. on
a regular basis. Able to stoop and bend without difficulty, and to be
on her or his feet much of the time.
Must be able to speak English
sufficiently to communicate with residents and staff, and read sufficient
English to fill out required records.
Regular attendance at work
and willingness to attend in-services and keep license current are required.
Patience is necessary to work with demanding or disoriented persons. |
